Throughout this sixth grade year we have had this program called DARE, and it is to try to keep kids off of drugs. What DARE stands for is Drug Abuse Resistance Education. Our assignment is to write an essay about what all we have learned through DARE. I have learned a lot of important things and I have also done lots of fun things with Deputy Thomas.
I think that DARE was a really good program for kids because it teaches you a lot and to make good choices. For example if one of your friends asked you to smoke anything or drink anything you should not do it you should avoid them.It teaches kids that once you get one that kind of stuff you end up edicted to it, and it is hard to quit what you are doing once you are edicted to it.Most kids after they see what those things do to you they don’t ever want to do it.
What I learned is to say no to every drug no matter who is doing it even if it is my friend or family.I will not do any of that because I have seen what those things do to you. In DARE we used these things called D.U.I goggles and it makes you see through a drunk person’s body and it is really hard and once I did that I did not ever want to be like that and see that way. Also another thing is I don’t want to look like Smoking Susie and she is a doll that smokes all the time she had so much tar in her and she was all Wrinkly and her teeth were yellow and I never want to look like that.
The DARE program has helped a lot of kids I’m sure because it has helped me and all of my friends see what that is like and now we never want to do any drug at all.Deputy Thomas has taught us all a lot this year about being drug free and it has helped me a lot and I am glad that we had the Dare program this year thanks to deputy Thomas.
I think that I will make good choices in life now that we had the DARE program because we learned about a lot of things that could happen if you are on drugs, and I don’t want to be like that when I get older, and that will happen if you are on drugs. If kids did not have DARE I think that there would be a lot more kids on drugs than what there are now.I will make good choices in life because that is the good thing to do and I want to be drug free that is what I promise myself and I will do it.
Here is one of the main things we learned about, we learned about Marijuana.Even though it is against the law to grow it people still grow it and get in trouble. Some of the things that we have learned about Marijuana is there is more tar in Marijuana smoke than in tobacco. Also Marijuana effects your brain and body. There a lot of facts about Marijuana. Marijuana smoke has fifty percent to seventy percent more of some cancer causing chemicals than tobacco smoke.
Another one of the main things we learned about was smoking. Some of the things that we learned about that is smoking is it is the number one cause of lung cancer. There are more than two hundred poisons in tobacco.Over 400,000 people die each year from tobacco related causes. Also smoking can cause yellow teeth and smelly breath. We learned so much in the DARE program that is why I liked it.
Another thing that we learned about is alcohol. We learned a lot from this and there are a lot of bad outcomes when someone drinks alcohol. Even if someone is not drinking they can still get hurt by someone else like a drunk driver or anybody body else that has drunk lately.Alcohol is illegal under the age of twenty one. When people drink it is not very good because other people can get hurt by others around them.
This DARE program has been so fun this year and been so helpful, I am so glad that we had this DARE program, but we couldn’t have had it if it wasn’t for Deputy Thomas,it has helped me a lot, I’m not sure about everyone else but now I am sure that I am going to say no to every drug and stay drug free for the rest of my life, that is my pledge to myself.
